Karen Bass is a commie incompetent. She should resign now.
In one crisis after another, Karen Bass has failed the test of leadership. She should resign now.
Karen Bass is a communist. Once you grasp that, you will grasp why Los Angeles, for all its avant-garde creativity, is far from reaching its enormous potential. Mind you, Karen is a pleasant commie. That’s her superpower. Karen Bass is the congenial, non-flashy mother figure that the average Angeleno can relate to. She’s disarming. She’s generous. She’s never fliched at dramatically raising the minimum wage, despite the hardship it brings on small businesses. But underneath the agreeable smile is a dedicated Marxist community organizer who would rather watch her city burn than do the right and challenging thing.
I actually met Karen Bass once in a Capitol Hill nail salon. We were both getting our nails done (yes, Crotty goes in for the occasional mani-pedi). We discussed a few policy initiatives that my office was introducing. And she agreed to look into them. She couldn't have been nicer. But never in my wildest dreams did I think Karen had the right stuff to lead the massive and Byzantine city of Los Angeles, my second home.
L.A. has never been a place for great mayors anyway. Any reasonable person would have picked billionaire real estate developer Rick Caruso to run the city as the World Cup and Olympics approach. Instead, voters chose Bass. By eight points!
Antonio Villaraigosa—a man who failed the California bar exam four times—was a former gangbanger, liar, and corrupt incompetent. Yet he won the mayoralty twice! You have to go back to Richard Riordan to find anything that resembled competence.
That Bass was elected to any office is attributable to her audacious belief in her competence. A competence belied by a series of grotesque failures. First, on homelessness. While more enlightened San Francisco eventually saw the light and elected Levi Straus heir Daniel Lurie to clean up the streets after the Woke disaster of London Breed, Bass continues with her kinder, gentler approach, leaving intact—despite Governor Newsom’s executive order demanding removal of encampments from state-owned properties—thousands of homeless encampments under freeway underpasses, on street corners, at bus stops, pretty much everywhere. Bass operates on the benighted presumption that all the homeless need is compassion. No, lady, they need strictly enforced no-camping ordinances and no-excuses shelters. Instead, Bass’s Inside Safe motels are hotbeds of drug abuse, violence, and inappropriate sexual activity. The cost of the Mayor’s homeless boondoggle is a staggering $700,000 per housed individual.
Secondly, on the L.A. fires. She was AWOL, far away in Accra, Ghana, when the fires broke out, despite the National Weather Service having issued a warning two days prior to her departure about intense Santa Ana winds presenting “critical fire conditions.” When questioned about her derelict response—empty reservoirs, low water pressure, improperly stationed fire personnel, cuts to the fire department budget, failure to pre-station fire trucks in at-risk areas, and a general lack of preparation among the populace—she was silent. Donald Trump came out to survey the carnage. He encouraged Bass to let in homeowners who wanted to rebuild. Bass has not followed any of the President’s suggestions. She’s stubborn. The fire-destroyed areas of Pacific Palisades and Altadena remain a heartbreaking disaster.
Third, on illegal immigration. Bass has made L.A. a sanctuary city, a dumping ground for millions of illegals. The success of illegals in running the L.A. drug trade, in murder for hire via MS-13, is all attributable to the Mayor’s sanctuary city policy. Then, when ICE came to remove a select few illegals, she staged a shameful revolt, claiming she didn’t need the National Guard even though her constituents were burning cars, exploding Molotov cocktails, and dropping cement projectiles onto cops. This is what Bass does best: demonize law enforcement and rally her base to protest. It’s absolute commie cowardice.
This is because commie protest is in her blood. In the 1970s, she was an organizer for the Venceremos Brigade, a pro-Cuban Revolution group that commandeered trips by Americans to the Communist country of Cuba. She ended up visiting Cuba eight times in the 1970s! That should have been a big, fat, red flag. Her heart was with Castro’s Commie Revolution, yet she was allowed to run L.A. It’s insanity.
During the ICE raids, Commie Karen said, “There are entire sectors of the economy in Los Angeles that depend on immigrant labor. This administration is waging a war against our own economy.” Is she just stupid? Or disingenuous? Because surely she realizes that she is talking about ILLEGAL immigrant labor.
The wealthy and influential residents of Pacific Palisades are aware that Bass is an incompetent disaster. They are looking elsewhere. The actor Mel Gibson, who lost his home in the wildfires, put it best: “As we experience rampant lawlessness and civil unrest, it’s never been more clear: California is in a state of turmoil. And I ask my fellow Angelenos why Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass are still in office. How much more of their destructive decision-making masquerading as leadership are we going to tolerate?”
The idea that LA is about to host the World Cup and the Olympics is a joke. How on earth this small-bore DEI functionary is going to get the city ready is anybody’s guess. These significant events require chutzpah and vision, which Bass lacks.
The city of Los Angeles is too Trump-deranged to select a Republican to get the job done. However, at the very least, it should consider a Democrat like Rick Caruso, who at least has real-world bona fides, including construction of the elegant Grove. Karen Bass should step aside so a real leader can be found.
Amen!
I'd vote for a monkey if it meant getting newsom out. wish i could vote to get bass out but she's not my mayor. I didn't realize newsom isn't out until 2027. let's do another recall.
